rant
about what a terrible father
he had been while she
was growing up,
he couldn’t help
but recognize the same words and complaints
that his new love had claimed
about her ex-husband.
It made him sick,
and it made him run.
He didn’t think he
was that terrible person, but maybe he was,
and he had just never seen it.

and Algeria
and India
and South Africa
and Russia
and throughout
North and South
America,
and sometimes,

Jamaica,
and Barcelona
and ahhhh,

you
are,
or why

read
my work,
or what search
brought you over the see
to see
me
and my poetry.
Can’t you just
check in?
Say a few words
about the words
I’ve written?
Explain
why we crossed paths?
So I don’t have to wonder
what wander
brought you
to connect
with me
one way only?
Take a chance!
