Is She Dead? Revolutionary ConTEXTing Haiku Lament

One of the most powerful film clips I’ve ever seen is a Dove public service announcement (psa), geared toward young women and self esteem issues, called “Amy”. Someone didn’t call me when they were supposed to. As I worried, I thought of the psa, and then wrote this haiku.

=================
This morning, she can think/
of twelve reasons not to call. /
He can think of one.

OR
He thinks of just one.

PS: The title “Amy” has ONLY to do with the Dove PSA — and has nothing to do with Amy Winehouse’s recent tragic passing. As a father of a daughter her age, I can only imagine the pain and suffering and the many long and sleepless nights Mr. Winehouse went through. It’s every father’s worst nightmare. My condolences to the Winehouse family. Shalom.

I Miss You Hollow: Romantic IMprov Blogging Lament

After he sends
sunrise reflections,
and plans,
and dreams,
and musings;

After asking her questions,
then calling,
and scheduling
and hoping to talk
and waiting …
and waiting,
… and waiting …

her short,
late text
recounting a busy day,
(too busy to contact him?),
and a recharging phone
(no other phones work?),
and a late-night visit
to parents,
(so no talking is possible,)
then a terse “Good night!”
is the response received.

Knowing how
the romantic
l o n g s
for contact,
for words spoken
and written;

knowing how
the last few days
had transformed hope
into dreams;
wishes
into action;

in that context
of longing
and waiting,
and pained anguish
and suspense,

“I want you”
and
“I miss you”
ring
hollow
on his
heart.

So Much Creativity: Romantic Blogging IMprov Sonnet

It will be strange to see,
at day’s end,
rhymes and lines of so much creativity
honestly emoting again.

To know of the fantasies
that were, throughout the day,
laid down in visions and dreams
because a romantic had something to say.

To read of the beliefs
he allowed himself to feel,
but at the end see the griefs
he could no longer conceal.

And then to learn, as day faded to night,
it was mused deception. Out goes his light.

I’m Sorry, I Can’t: Romantic Blogging Poetic Lament

I wasn’t going to publish this one because it’s too painful … but a friend said I should.

I ask if we can talk.

“I’m sorry, I can’t.
I’m sorry, I’m busy.
Not tonight, I’m tired. I’m sorry.
Not tonight, I’m thinking. I’m sorry.
Not now, maybe later. I’m sorry.
I’m at my folks. I’m sorry.
I can’t tonight. I’m sorry.
I don’t feel like talking. I’m sorry.
I’m caving. I’m sorry.
Now is not a good time. I’m sorry.
I’m busy. I’m sorry.
I’m doing something else. I’m sorry.
I’m tired. I’m sorry.
I’m sore. I’m sorry.
I’m sleepy. I’m sorry.
I’m busy or I would. I’m sorry.
I’m not feeling up to it.
I’m not in the mood.”

What everyone tells me she’s saying is:
“Thanks, but no thanks … sorry!” Or
“I’m not that into you.”

I just wanted to talk. I’m sorry.
