She wants to see me/
so she can again grind her/
heel into my heart.

Why I Sleep: Romantic IMprov Rhyming Haiku

You ask if I sleep./
Yes, I do, so I can dream/
of women like you!

Stop trying to grow/
palm trees on the tundra, or/
moss in the desert.

Some days/
there’s only one way/
to give a girl flowers:/
Use my creative powers!
(inspired by the previous poem about Japanese Plum Blossom droplets).

She said: “Just be friends.”/
My guess is she has lots of/
friends, and won’t call me.

I’d move back to the /
Northwest if I had someone /
who would keep me warm.

I didn’t know she/
was Facebook following me/
until I stalked her.

With arms extended,/
alone, she still captures her/
beauty through her phone.

Old habits arise,/
and I’m tempted again to/
free* my tawdry pen.

*lift

She views where we once/
romped and she broke my heart. I’m/
the lonely island.
