I read where she’d sit/
if she’d come to it but she/
won’t. I feel like shit.

Ambivalence For Sale: Romantic ConTEXTing Haiku

If you were for sale,/
though ambivalent, I would /
not buy into you.

If he gave her cash/
each place she went, would she still/
be ambivalent?

If he was handsome/
like George Clooney, would she still/
be much too busy?

It had been long since/
I’d toiled in her garden, yet/
I felt I still should.

OR
It had been long since/
I’d toiled in her garden. Still,/
I felt comfort there.

I hope you’re doing/
well. This rhyme’s to tell you: I’m/
(still) interested!

If I’m attentive/
daily, will she at last grasp: /
I’m interested?

I’m sure there are a lot of guys /
who text you more than I./
But I doubt there are many who/
think about you/
as much as I do.

We walked.
You wore my chapeau
And pink
And leaned
To see something closer
And I did, too.

And it was art.

Today I walked
Alone
Where you were pink
And wore my deck.

(I’d forgotten
you were talking
to someone else
on the phone).*

And I wondered
Why we couldn’t
Walk that way
Again.

*Added the next day when I saw the photo of her wearing my hat … and talking on the phone.

Every man deserves/
more than someone who’s hung up/
on another guy.
