Romance and beauty/
were never far from the rose./
She just could never see clearly/
whether awake or in sweet repose./
It followed her/
where e’r she went:/
out gardening le’ Fleur,/
or collecting the rent,/
Or cheering her children,/
or entertaining her friends,/
the rose’s beauty and/
romance had no beginning, nor end./
To see romance and beauty clearer,/
the rose needed simply to find a mirror.
